What is Yoga?

Yoga is the state of remembering the unity we share with all things. Yoga practices are a useful and valuable means of attaining health and balance within all levels of existence. Over the long and distinguished history of Yoga, 4 major branches or paths of practice developed to help people find greater harmony and understanding: Gyan Yoga, which is the path of knowledge; Bhakti yoga, the path of devotion; Karma yoga, which is the path through selfless action; and Raja Yoga, which is the path of bringing awareness to the body and the breath through breathing techniques, postures and meditation.

All such practices are interconnected, and in an underlying sense woven together. Yet, an individual's personal practice may lead one direction or another based upon your specific goals, desires, and needs. While the primary focus of classes in the West today are focused on the Raja theme, it is our goal to provide a variety of class opportunities and personal instruction so that our students can discover great strength, flexibility, balance, peace of mind, and meaningful purpose through their practice of Yoga.

Brief Descriptions Of Our Classes

VINYASA YOGA
Vinyasa refers to the coordination of movement with breath. Vinyasa classes energize, develop strength, flexibility, and balance – flowing one breath to one movement.

HATHA YOGA
Hatha yoga is a holistic format that incorporates the Vinyasa flow. It is designed for those who want to further explore breath work and meditation. Hatha classes have the same benefits of Vinyasa with added relaxation and is a little more on the "Gentle" side.

POWER YOGA
The Power Yoga class here at our school is an intense and energizing style that will test your limits.

Benefits of Yoga

The benefits of yoga are endless.  Each asana has a specific purpose and its own particular benefits.  For many, Yoga is wonderful for managing and relieving stress and finding clarity.  It helps conquer fatigue and gives the body energy as well as increases metabolism.  Yoga can also help significantly with relieving back and neck pain and builds strength in these areas to prevent injury and soreness.  Circulation is increased dramatically and can help with health concerns such as varicose veins and can loosen tight hips caused by prolonged walking or standing.  Yoga is great for athletes and those who work out regularly because it helps stretch the muscles that become tightened while working out.  When practiced regularly, Yoga can have a powerful effect on the mind and body that many argue can eliminate disease.
